perhaps in another universe, you didn't miss your train...
when i hugged you in the station & you turned to pass the gate,
my cognition had a lapse & my heart briefly opened;
my lips soft & low;
"i love you"
but you didn't hear.
perhaps in another universe, the words came out louder & you heard them...
but instead i grabbed my mouth & stifled the urge within,
twirling back round, my eyes winced shut with a sigh, taking steps back towards my exit.
immediately i demanded an intervention between brain & heart;
"who the hell nearly let that come out?!"
the brain came up with a lot of excuses, it always does.
never accepts the blame,
always avoids the truth.
the heart, softly confessed. longing for love's allure,
"it was me, but you'll try to pretend it wasn't."
perhaps in another universe, you remembered to take your yoga mat so i didn't have to find you again...
